Get It Down; 31 for 21
Georgia's mommy Tricia is starting a challenge at Unringing the Bell.
Since October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month, we are challenged to write something in our blog at least once a day for the entire month.
I never really write anything of interest to anyone other than my mom, but I will try!
I am taking this opportunity to honor my kids by blogging ALL that they do everyday.
This challenge is for ANYONE, please check out Unringing the Bell for more information. It is just about Getting it Down!
Thank you Jennifer from Pinwheels for paying it forward. I was lucky enough to be chosen by her son Bennett to receive his old books that helped him start reading.
I am very excited to get Megan interested in reading. We have a handful of words that she recognizes from years of Love and Learning and we hope to add to them.
Megan is a 3 year old with Down Syndrome who can read the word otter...LOL
THANKS AGAIN BENNETT!!!!

We have Megan's IEP right around the corner. I want to ask for additional services and I am hoping they will agree.
Does anyone know if it is possible to get therapy outside of school once they are in the 3-5 IU?
I want Megan to get an extra hour a week of PT in the community, preferably dance class.
We had open house this week at dance when I went into the class. Megan had a hard time doing the moves. She needed me to sit with her and put her legs and feet into position to "get it". It all seemed a little too over her head.
But the whole idea of therapy is to keep our kids on track with their peers? right?
so asking for a PT to assist wouldn't be out of the question since the other kids her age are able to do class.
So I am hoping they will agree. I am actually hoping her teachers are reading this for a heads up.
I never really worried too much about the physical aspect cause the "cognitive" seemed so much more important....but now I am thinking I was wrong to think this way because it is all connected. She needs to be physically equal to keep up and to learn, so I hope to get this extra service.
I was thinking if it doesn't work I could see about a High School student helping and getting community service hours for doing it. As a parent we are not allowed in class as we are a distraction and I completely agree.

Any thoughts or ideas?
Last night it was way too late but they were all up.
And they were all laughing.
The girls decided it would be funny to push all our belly buttons. When they pushed mine I would giggle like the Pillsbury Dough Boy, when they pushed Joe's he would honk like a car horn and when they pushed Joey's he would make an animal sound and the girls did this for 45 minutes straight. Going from dad to me to Joey pushing us like a button. Megan was so tired and laughing so hard she could not stand up or walk without falling.
Laughter just makes my heart swell. The one thing I love most about my children is their laughter and I just let them go until 9:45 and then they all collapsed into bed with hugs and kisses my next favorite thing about them.

So Saturday was a day packed with Parties.
At noon I went to my nephews 2nd Birthday Party with my kids at Chuckie Cheese.
Next, my husband dropped me off at my friend Jen's house and we went to a grown-up demonstration (very naughty) and then the 2 of us were to go from there to my other friend's (Jamie, Victoria's mom)house for her son's birthday party.
I was none the wiser. I did think we were going to Ryan's 2nd birthday.
We pulled up to the house and everything seemed just as usually. There were Happy 2nd Birthday balloons blowing from the mail box.
I got out of Jen's car and was about to walk to our car (since Joe went to the party w/ the kids) to see if Joe left Ryan's present in the trunk when Jen rushed me along telling me, "Don't worry about it"...so I continued to the front door to hear a loud yell of SURPRISE! The first face I saw was Joey's, my son, and I thought in my head, "Why are you doing that silly, be quite" When my scanner went on and I saw, Grandmom, Stacey, my sister, Mike, Kelly and her family.
I literally almost fell to the ground in amazement.
I cannot believe they pulled it off but they did. I, up to this point had never been surprised before.
I am still in shock over it all 2 days later.
WOW, I have some pretty awesome friends, don't I....
BTW, I will be the BIG 30 on September 28th (2 weeks away). I guess that is why I wasn't expecting anything. I will post pics when I get them from Jamie.

I am just getting a chance to post.
Megan's 1st dance class went well. I am not able to watch but I did sit in the waiting area and I peeked through the crack in the door. I could hear the teacher tell Megan to come back over to the group a few times but after class she said all the kids were just getting the hang of it and it would get better. She was very cute so that is all that really matters, right? LOL
Here is a picture of Megan and her friend Victoria. They are only 12 hours apart and are the best of friends! Me and Jamie (Victoria's mom) plan on sending them together to dance for as long as they let us.

Monday night was a busy night for our family. We had a baseball game, back to school night and a township meeting. Of course my 1st choice between the 3 is baseball but being a mom, I had to go to back to school night to meet Joey's new teacher.
However, I got to go to the beginning of the game to witness the sweetest thing ever.
We met a family of a boy on Joey's team. The 5 year old brother was Chris and he was SMITTEN over Megan. He kept following her around, hugging her and kissing her.
I was watching closely because I didn't want him to get too rough with Megan.
Megan a few times kept trying to get away from him and ran over to me and her Pop Pop.
Chris followed and Megan clawed her way up on Pop Pop's lap. Chris started saying, "I just can't stop hugging her, it isn't that I want to marry her or anything, I just can't explain it, I just love her"...I said, "Chris, I know what you are talking about, sometimes I can't stop hugging and kissing her too" and he said, "she is just..[long pause]......magical" as he continued to hug her while she sat on her Pop Pop's lap. My dad and I looked at each other and just giggled about how cute it was....too bad I had to leave to go to back to school night, I think I would have enjoyed watching Megan get away from her stalker...LOL
He was soooo cute though.
After dance class last night me and the kids went to the Garden of Reflection our local 9-11 memorial. On September 11, 2001 our community lost 18 lives during the terrorist attacks.
This is a day that will never be forgotten.
Joey and myself talked alot about it yesterday and cried together too.
He has so many questions and I wanted him to know he could ask whatever he wanted.
I retold the story of the flight that fought back and Joey was so touched, he had tears filled in his eyes.
Here are our photos from the memorial.

So we have been preparing for days. Going here to get tap shoes, going there to get leotards and stockings. And today is the day, today we start dance class with Ms. Sharon. I am just so excited. Megan is about to start her first independent activity and I know she is ready. She loves everything and anything to do with music and dance. I have been waiting for this day since I was a young girl. I so badly wanted to join dance in High School with a friend but my mom and dad worked and I was unable to get to the classes. So my dream will come true for Megan.
I did dance when I was her age and I still have the pictures I will have to go dig them out at nap time. At recital I was dressed as a Lion and we did the song "I am a shy lion" and my teacher was Ms. Jan (I was 3 and 4 but still remember).
Just wanted to share with you the morning we had of "preparing".
She still has to go to school but we, I mean "I" was too excited and had to have her try everything on...I even have her hair ready. Enjoy the pics and I will update again after the actual class, lol.

Check out this blog

It is about a family I know through downsyn an online support group for down syndrome.
I do not know them personally and have only heard some of there stories through prayer requests but $10 is not going to break my bank.
I encourage all who have a few dollars in your paypal to take a chance on this family and donate. Everyone deserves compassion.
I can remember seeing this boys face so proud of himself by doing the polar plunge for his sisters and I donated then because it touched my heart.
It has now broken my heart that he was taken away.
Please see it in your heart to make any donation you can.
Thank you.

So we have evolved since my last post about eye glasses. We went from the rinky dink little red one's to maroon designer frames. Not such a good investment though as she has already broken them...lol (got them back this morning)
My little Megan is definitely a Designer Babe!
Check her out!

Joey my boy started his 5th grade year at his elementary school. He is getting so big and is just the light of my life. He makes me smile from ear to ear everyday!
Here is our annual driveway pics before the bus came. My sister came by and actually got me in a picture which is a rarity since I am always taking them.
Megan and Olivia put on their tap shoes for the event.
